The Walkers are moving to a new town, and staying with an aunt who's allergic to dogs. Too bad for Andi and her brother Bruce, who love dogs -- and happen to meet a stray that needs help. Soon, Andi hatches a plan, turning the abandoned house down the block into a hotel for dogs. But as more and more tenants move in, the secret gets too big to keep. Can the kids save their canine castle? Or will the hotel have to close? (taken from Amazon)
MY THOUGHTS : A very cute and catchy story, never boring nor too moralist. Any child can find a bit of himself in the protagonists, two children ready to transgress the rules for a good cause. They know what they want, they have principles, and I was 100% with them!
The writing style, faithful to its time, adds poetry and identity to the novel. The message finds its way throughout the book without being pushed too much. The importance of the animals is not exaggerated, and it doesn't make the story too silly or "too-cute", which is not always the case with books that involve animals (may it be dogs or horses)!
The context is not modern since the story takes place in the seventies (the book was written at that time), and I loved it, I thought it gave a lot of charm to the book and also that it set up a nice atmosphere. It still works today (to the point of making a movie actually), so that's just a sign that the book didn't age with the years passing.

I recommend this book to any parent, child, and dog-lover out there!
